Hi all,This is my rundown on general barrier information. It might be a bit rambly and incoherent but I'll do my best to explain.
TL;DR:
1.Barrier does not stack. The newest barrier will always replace the old one. Even if the old one is stronger.
2a. If HP is 100%, barrier will be tacked onto the right side of the HP bar proportionally. It does not cover the HP bar.
2b. If HP is below 100%, barrier will fill in the missing HP segment before tacking on a new segment.
I will explain more below (and with pictures!).
But first, I need to get the FAQ out of the way:
What's barrier?
A shield. Armor. Pseudo-hitpoints. It's a blue buff with a pair of paranthesis () as the icon.
Can you bypass barrier?
No. Bleed, poison, fire, direct damage, whatever else need to eat up barrier first.
How can I determine how strong a barrier is?
By reading the skill description, sweetheart. e.g "barrier based on caster's ATK/HP/DEF" or "barrier based on target's HP." And then reading the details below so you can determine how strong that barrier actually is!
1.Barrier does not stack.
You can see Diene's 30% barrier on Angelica being replaced with Angelica's 15% barrier.
2a. Barrier is tacked onto the right side of the HP bar... and is reduced from left to right.

2ai. What does it mean when it's tacked on?
It means that the total HP bar has to readjust to accommodate the new addition to the HP bar. The bar as a whole represents 100%. The green HP bar is reduced to [100% - (barrier strength # / total HP #)] and the barrier slots into the newly made space. I will give an example.
In the picture below, all characters are at max HP. 100% completely. However, Angelica's (blessed be her slow speed) barrier buff still remains. I've taken Diene's health bar from the same picture and placed it on top for a comparison.

Each tick mark represents 10%. You can count them if you don't trust me. Using Diene's health bar, you can see that Angelica's barrier has one and a half ticks worth. 15%. Using the same comparison, you can also see that Angelica's 100% HP is made smaller in scale. 100% HP rescaled to 85% to make room for 15% barrier.
2aii. What about barriers that don't scale on target stats/self barrier?
Angelica's barrier is 15% of her own HP but what if it's placed on a different unit? The same concept applies from above, except I'm too dumb to make a perfect math formula for this. Your HP bar is rescaled to make room for barrier. Remember, everything adds up to 100%. Blah blah blah.

My Angelica has 10.1k HP. This King Slime has 283 HP. Barrier strength is 1515 HP.
283/1515 * 100% = 18.67%.
Your HP segment is rescaled to 18.67% of the total HP bar to make room for 81.33% barrier. You can actually see that there isn't a second tick in the green HP region :eyes:
2b. This is too complicated, let's finish. What about when HP isn't 100%?

This is Diene's barrier ( 30% of target HP).
First the barrier fills up the HP bar before adding on a segment that's exclusively for barriers. You can differentiate the two by the big, distinct tick mark separating the two portions as well as the unmarked barrier segment (it has no tick marks).
The above applies here as well. 10569/11188 is ~95%. The barrier segment is ~25%.

That's it!
Feel free to correct me or something or add some useful tidbits. Try not to barrier me, thanks. (GET IT, TRY NOT TO BURY ME? plsgetit)
